About the Role

As the Lead Nurse in Eating Disorders, you will manage all aspects of clinical practice on the ward. You will provide support to the Clinical Manager in day-to-day clinical management of the unit and ensure a safe environment for all patients accessing the service. Promotion of the highest standards of care will be integral to the role, ensuring that a co-ordinated packages of care are provided through effective and timely liaison with other health professionals.


Here are some of the key things you'll be responsible for:

Lead the Nursing and ED team to ensure safe and effective nursing practices are embedded throughout Schoen Clinic York and work with the Clinical Manager to ensure the rota is safely staffed to meet the needs of the service. Participate and organise the Senior Nurse on-call rota, managing day to day ward issues in line with Schoen Clinic policies and audit the on-call requirements with the nursing team.


  • Ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act and Mental Health Capacity Act are fulfilled;

  • Ensure the nursing team adhere to NMC guidelines;

  • Assist the Clinical Manager and medical staff with the highly specialist assessment, admission and discharge of patients;

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care, treatment and management of risk for individuals with complex needs, and support others to be able to do this;

  • Provide specialist advice

  • Demonstrate effective leadership, being visible and accessible to patients, families/carers, and colleagues;

  • Develop and deliver training packages to enhance the knowledge and skills of the staff;

Skills & requirements

The successful candidate will be registered to the NMC with no restrictions on practice and work with clear understanding of the NICE and MEED guidelines.

Schoen Clinic York is a highly specialised Hospital for adults in the North of England. We are currently based on the ground floor of Minster Grange as an eating disorder hospital, and in September 2024 will be expanding to cover the full building with other service lines including Dementia care. We are situated just off Haxby Road which is 10 minutes’ drive from York Train Station and 4 miles from the A64.
