Rheumatology is the branch of medicine concerned with the development, diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect the joints, bones, muscles and connective tissue.

Overview

Our consultant rheumatologists provide care for a wide spectrum of patients from high performance athletes to people with arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions. Services can be accessed as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary treatment plan or as a separate speciality.

Causes & Symptoms

There are a wide range of and cause of rheumatological conditions including back and neck pain, connective tissue disease, degenerative joint disease, arthritis, Lupus, osteoporosis, sciatica and soft tissue disorders such as tennis elbow and carpal tunnel.

Common symptoms include:

  • Pain of the joints
  • Bony swelling around the joint area
  • Clicking and cracking sound during movement
  • Stiffness
  • Inflammation

Diagnostics

Our Consultant Rheumatologists are supported by our Imaging Suite for x-ray, ultrasound and MRI scanning.  The team also has access to other specialists within Schoen Clinic to work with and refer to as appropriate.

Treatment will depend on the nature and severity of your rheumatoid condition but could include:
