ABOUT

Emma Blackburn is the Lead Nurse and Infection Control Lead at Schoen Clinic Newbridge.

Emma has worked at Newbridge for 11 years, starting as a healthcare assistant during her mental health nurse training in 2009 at Birmingham City University. During her training, Emma worked within many specialist areas of mental health including eating disorders, deaf mental health services, mother and baby services and forensic mental health services.

Emma completed an undergraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing in 2012 and gained a post as a staff nurse at Schoen Clinic Newbridge. Within 18 months of qualifying, she achieved the role of Senior Staff Nurse and also returned to university to complete a specialist degree, a BSC (Hons) in child and adolescent mental health nursing. Within this degree, she completed the mentorship program and is a qualified sign off mentor, supporting final year students to gain their registration.

Emma recently completed the nurse prescribing qualification ensuring the medical team have timely access to medication. She works closely with local universities and has been a specialist visiting lecturer in eating disorders for a number of years, providing education and training to student nurses in eating disorders and child and adolescent mental health.

Emma also leads the NG training and is the Lead Phlebotomist at Schoen Clinic Newbridge, where she provides education and training to new members of staff to ensure they have these specialised skills to provide NG and phlebotomy services to our patients.

Emma works closely with our young people and their families to ensure they are supported from referral to discharge - "I understand that entering inpatient services can be the most challenging and difficult time for our families and I ensure they are supported, listened to and provided with the greatest care and compassion."

Other responsibilities of her lead nurse role are to support the nursing team to ensure they are trained to the highest standards in these specialist areas of mental health and eating disorders. Emma leads the nursing team in training, development and support to ensure they are trained to the highest standard and valued and supported so they can provide the quality and standard of care that our young people and families deserve.

“I’m extremely proud of the whole team at Schoen Clinic Newbridge and feel privileged to be a part of an outstanding service, who have supported so many families over the years. We continue to strive to provide the highest standards of care, with our young people and families being at the heart of everything we do.”
