Specialist orthopaedic physiotherapy service in London

At Schoen Clinic Orthopaedic and Spinal Hospital London, we aim to help people feel better and recover faster. The objective of our physiotherapy team is to support you to restore and improve your functionality and performance.

Our physiotherapists work with the doctors and surgeons as part of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to tailor your rehabilitation programme for your individual needs – this includes your physical, psychological and biomechanical characteristics, your personal goals and your circumstances which may enhance or inhibit the time you have to dedicate to your exercises. This is an ongoing assessment so we can ensure we adjust the programme dependent on your progress and response to treatment.

Physiotherapy is part of your recovery either from injury, surgery, or to help in the management of chronic diseases and other conditions.

Your physiotherapy treatment

At Schoen Clinic London, we understand how different we all are and so offer each patient a personalised physiotherapy programme unique to each person’s recovery and injury. We will ensure you have individualised care and a plan that supports the whole person, not just the area which is injured.

Our experienced physiotherapy team treat a wide range of sports injuries and orthopaedic and spinal conditions. By using the latest techniques and equipment, they can help you to improve your quality of life while regaining function and movement of the affected area and strengthening your muscles.

Working alongside your surgeon and other healthcare professionals, we ensure you receive the very best outcomes.

The programme is designed for you, using the latest technology, research and exercises to strengthen, mobilise and prevent recurring issues.

These programmes include:

  • Prehab and Rehab
  • Pain management
  • Joint and Spinal mobility
  • Promoting recovery with co-ordination, stability and balance
  • Strength training
  • Injury prevention

Our physiotherapy services and post-op exercise guides

Exercises for strength and mobility are an essential part of your recovery if you've undergone a total joint replacement. If you've had a total knee replacement  or a total hip replacement with one of our specialist Consultants at Schoen Clinic London you'll already know how important your recovery is, and your physiotherapist will have gone through your exercises with you. However, our expert physiotherapy team have built easy-to-follow guides for patients following joint replacement should you need any extra assistance or a reminder of the exercises to complete.

Physiotherapy is essential after surgery but just as important as a preventive measure to avoid injury or minimise the impact of pain on health and wellbeing. Whatever your case, we are here to help.

Our physiotherapy service is available for both inpatients and outpatients.

Using the latest technology, we can pinpoint specific muscular weakness and poor endurance and utilise this data to plan your treatment. Isokinetic testing is classically performed pre and post knee surgery, but has many more widespread applications than this. Here at Schoen Clinic London, we routinely test ankle and foot weakness pre and post spinal surgery when leg pain is a component of the presentation. We also use the device to help rehabilitate patients with upper limb problems such as shoulder impingements and the pathologies that are commonly known as tennis and golfer’s elbow.

Following an orthopaedic surgery at Schoen Clinic London, such as a knee or hip replacement, our physiotherapist team will liaise closely with your surgeon and nursing staff to safely assist you with your first stand after surgery and then progress your mobility to using crutches or walking aids as appropriate depending on your procedure. By working in a multidisciplinary team, we will ensure your discharge from hospital occurs in a safe and timely manner while regaining your independence and mobility.

As an outpatient, you can benefit from our highly experienced physiotherapy team and our approach to quality outcomes.
At Schoen Clinic London, we have a unique spinal strengthening service for acute and chronic back and neck pain, as well as cutting edge treatments such as Isokinetic muscle testing and shockwave therapy. The majority of private medical insurers covers our outpatient physiotherapy service; alternatively, you can pay for it yourself. This service can be accessed via referral from your GP or as a self-referral.
