Sylvia Metzer is a Principal Systemic Family Psychotherapist offering swift and compassionate consultations tailored for parents, families, children, and couples dealing with mental health conditions at Schoen Clinic Chelsea.

Sylvia specialises in guiding client families through challenges related to eating disorders, anxiety and self-harm issues. Her tenure with Schoen Clinic dates back to 2020, where she applies her expertise in addressing the intricate dynamics within families dealing with these sensitive issues. Notably, Sylvia has a decade-long history of successful private practice collaboration with the Priory Hospital in Roehampton.

Her extensive experience encompasses supporting both adolescent and adult patients, alongside their families, in navigating psychological and emotional hurdles.

Beyond clinical practice, Sylvia holds pivotal roles as a clinical supervisor, senior lecturer and trainer within the NHS and the Institute of Family Therapy. Her rich background as an organisational psychologist spans over 20 years, providing invaluable contributions through organisational coaching, leadership training and facilitation.

Sylvia thrives on a transparent and collaborative approach when working with clients and their families. She seamlessly integrates her practice with various treatment modalities within the clinic, fostering a holistic and comprehensive therapeutic experience.

Training and awards:

Sylvia is Acting Chair of the Ethics and Training committees for the Association of Family Therapy (AFT) and regularly writes, lectures and presents on behalf of the profession of systemic family therapy on the four-year training programme to MSc level and at conferences and in various systemic journals.

She received her MSc in Systemic Couples, and Family Psychotherapy with the Institute of Family Therapy and Birkbeck College, London University and is an Accredited AFT Supervisor, gaining the qualification from the Institute of Family Therapy.

Sylvia is accredited with UKCP (UK Chartered Psychotherapists) and is a member of the British Psychological Society. She gained a BSc in Psychology from the University of Manchester and an MSc in Organisational Psychology from the London School of Economics.
