Schoen Clinic honoured as a prime example

Measuring and assessing results and continuously making developments are all common practice at Schoen Clinic, which has just been awarded by the Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) Centre.

VBHC in the Netherlands presented the hospital group with the VBHC European Inspiration Award, naming Schoen Clinic as an inspiring example on a European level.

Schoen Clinic has been measuring its treatment results for many years and using them to make constant improvements in its medical care and add value for patients. The hospital group is therefore a huge inspiration, as stated by the honorary chairman of the VBHC prize, Harvard professor Michael Porter, during the award ceremony in the Netherlands. The value-based healthcare approach focuses on individual patient benefits, without losing sight of expenses.

“This award is a recognition of the overall company direction of Schoen Clinic of results-oriented patient care,” Managing Director Dr Michael Knapp stated in his acceptance speech. “Our top priority is providing our patients with real added value through our treatment, in terms of both medical treatment results and patient safety and satisfaction. Furthermore, we are convinced that a measurably high quality of treatment also has a positive impact on earnings,” he explains.

This is the second time this year that the European Inspiration Award from the Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) Centre in Europe, an initiative from the consultancy firm The Decision Group, has been presented. Schoen Clinic was selected as a particularly inspiring example for healthcare on a European level. Last year, the award went to the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf.

Just recently, Schoen Clinic’s measurement of medical results was awarded the Business Model Innovation Award in the Best Quality Data Model category by Healthcare Business International (HBI). Schoen Clinic regularly evaluates its long-established measurement of medical results and uses the empirical data collected and discussed by experts to continuously develop and improve.

The largest family-run hospital group in Germany treats all patients, whether they have statutory or private insurance. Since its foundation by the Schoen family in 1985, the company has achieved quality and excellence through specialisation. Its medical focal points include psychosomatics, orthopaedics, neurology, surgery and internal medicine. At currently 23 locations in Bavaria, Hamburg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig Holstein and the United Kingdom, 10,000 staff treat around 300,000 patients per year. For years, Schoen Clinic has measured the results of treatment and regularly used them to make relevant improvements for its patients.
