Schoen Clinic York, on the ground floor of Minster Grange, offers highly specialised treatments for adults with eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.
We provide inpatient residential care, private short-stay support, daycare treatment where patients are stable enough to return home each evening and one-to-one appointments.
The main goal of our short-term inpatient option is to offer early intervention, helping to lessen the impact of eating disorders and, ideally, avoid their escalation.
Our eating disorder specialists work together as a multidisciplinary team (unique in private healthcare) which includes Consultant Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, occupational therapists, dietitians, social workers and specially trained mental health nurses.
Both inpatient and daycare treatments are devised and delivered in conjunction with each patient to be individualised to their needs.
Treating an eating disorder: a multidisciplinary approach
Our treatment model is based on the principle that no single intervention is sufficient on its own to overcome an eating disorder. It consists of multiple components which all fit together.
An integrated approach is used to address all the aspects and impacts of an eating disorder including behaviour, emotions, consequences, the relationship to life events and the effect on loved ones.
Schoen Clinic York is becoming widely known as one of the best private eating disorder hospitals for adults in the UK.
At the core of this model is the multidisciplinary team (MDT). The MDT brings together all the different supports and interventions, considers how everything is working and enables the patient to share their views and plans for ongoing care once returning home.
Each patient is allocated to an MDT on admission and will be invited to weekly meetings, where they will be encouraged to participate and share their views.
Additionally, there will be a Care Programme Approach (CPA) every six to eight weeks, where treatment goals and care will be thoroughly reviewed, incorporating the patient's views. Family and carers are welcome to join these meetings and the community team will usually attend to ensure everyone is working together, treatment goals are clear and hospital admission is no longer than necessary.
Schoen Clinic York is proudly part of the Schoen Clinic UK Group, where all UK hospitals are rated 'Good' or 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission and is open all year round.
