Private CAMHS: specialised mental health help for children and teens

There's nothing more worrying than if your child is struggling, we're here to support with specialised mental health treatment and therapy in London

What is CAMHS? Specialist private mental health support for children and teenagers

CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) and CYPMHS (Children and Young People's Mental Health Services) provide crucial support and treatment for young individuals facing mental health challenges. These services focus not only on the individual but on the mental health and wellbeing of the entire family.

Our dedicated and caring private CAMHS specialists include child psychiatrists, psychologists, family therapists, psychotherapists and other mental health professionals. We take a comprehensive approach that considers the developmental, social, and psychological aspects specific to children and adolescents.

We address the specific needs of young individuals through specialised assessments, therapeutic interventions such as play therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), collaboration with schools to address mental health issues impacting academic performance, and medication management if necessary.

If you think your family could benefit from our services, please reach out to us. We offer assessments and treatment to children, teenagers and their families, often in as little as 24 hours.

We are here to help you every step of the way.

Addressing the unique mental health needs of children and teens

Navigating childhood, adolescence and early adulthood is different for every family. Children and teenagers today face a unique set of challenges, from academic pressure and shifting family dynamics to identity struggles, social media influence and bullying at school.

Life transitions, such as starting secondary school or university, can also feel overwhelming for both young people and their parents. Read more about how to support your child through early life transitions.

Adolescence, in particular, can be a turbulent time of emotional change, where issues like low mood, anxiety or disordered eating can begin to emerge. For some, these difficulties are compounded by concerns around identity, body image or peer comparison, often intensified by the pressures of social media. Discover how social media could be affecting young minds.

As children grow and their bodies change during puberty, some may also begin to experience distorted self-perceptions or fixate on perceived flaws, early signs of body dysmorphic disorder. Learn more about the signs and symptoms of body dysmorphia.

For young people exploring their gender or sexual identity, particularly those within the LGBTQ+ community, the teenage years can be especially complex. Mental health struggles often arise from a sense of isolation, stigma, or bullying. Explore the connection between LGBTQ+ identity, mental health and eating disorders.

While many families navigate these difficulties alone, it’s important to know that help is available, and seeking professional support is a positive step, not a sign of failure.

At Schoen Clinic Chelsea, our specialists are highly experienced in supporting the emotional and psychological needs of children and teenagers. We offer expert care for a range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, stress, eating disorders and more, helping young people build resilience and thrive.

Our tailored mental health interventions include counselling for children, therapy for teenagers, psychiatric assessments, medication management, and family-based support. These services are available in person, remotely, or through a flexible combination of both, ensuring care is accessible when and where it’s needed most.

Our approach to helping children and teens

Our CAMHS professionals are trained to address the unique developmental stages of children and adolescents, tailoring interventions to suit different ages and ensuring developmentally informed care. At Schoen Clinic Chelsea, we offer family-centred support, involving the entire family in the assessment and treatment process. Recognising the impact of family dynamics, we collaborate with parents and carers to create supportive environments and effective strategies for managing challenges.

We also employ trauma-informed approaches when necessary, acknowledging the impact of adverse experiences on children's mental health. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive environment that considers any history of trauma or abuse. Understanding the challenges parents face when their child struggles with mental health, our holistic approach supports both the child and the family.

We prioritise addressing mental health conditions that affect your child's personal, academic, and social life, providing ongoing support and collaborating with educational institutions to facilitate recovery.

At Schoen Clinic Chelsea, we offer personalised treatment plans tailored to your child's unique needs. Our specialists provide culturally competent care, respecting diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and values, and believe in early intervention to prevent lasting negative impacts on their adult lives.

Fortunately, our team comprises specialists who are readily available, often within days, for self-paying patients. This prompt availability ensures a comprehensive assessment without unnecessary delays.

Assessment durations vary based on each condition's specific criteria.

A typical initial assessment at our London outpatient clinic would last for up to 90 minutes to give space for the CAMHS professional to meet with the family, the young person individual and also with the parents/caregivers separately so that voices can be heard.
