About Andrew Anderson

Qualifications

MBPC, MBACP

Andrew Anderson is a highly experienced Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, working with adults as part of the specialist outpatient addictions programme at Schoen Clinic Chelsea.

He offers in-depth, reflective therapy for individuals seeking meaningful and lasting change, particularly when addiction, compulsive behaviours, or emotional distress have become difficult to manage alone.

Andrew works with adults experiencing addiction and dependency, including those navigating long-standing patterns of self-destructive behaviour, emotional overwhelm, or repeated cycles of relapse and recovery. Many of the individuals he supports may be functioning well externally (maintaining careers, relationships, and responsibilities) while privately struggling with shame, impulsivity, isolation, or a sense of being “stuck”.

His approach is psychodynamic and psychoanalytically informed, focusing on the emotional and relational experiences that often sit beneath addictive patterns. Rather than offering quick fixes or prescriptive solutions, Andrew provides a consistent, thoughtful therapeutic space where clients can speak openly, reflect honestly, and begin to understand the deeper drivers behind their behaviour.

Therapy with Andrew supports clients to explore the internal conflicts, coping strategies, and unconscious patterns that may contribute to addiction, including issues linked to attachment, self-worth, trauma, identity, and interpersonal difficulties. With greater insight and emotional understanding, individuals can develop healthier ways of managing distress, improving relationships, and building a more stable foundation for recovery.

Andrew has worked across NHS and private settings, including specialist and forensic services, and has extensive experience supporting individuals affected by addiction. He has also provided psychological support to professionals working under high pressure, and has worked with adults on the autism spectrum, helping individuals navigate the emotional and relational challenges that can accompany neurodivergence.

As part of the multidisciplinary outpatient addictions team at Schoen Clinic Chelsea, Andrew works collaboratively with colleagues to provide integrated, person-centred care for adults experiencing addiction alongside co-occurring mental health difficulties.
