About Richard De Val
Qualifications
PGDip, BA(Hons), MBACP
Richard is a psychotherapist with extensive experience working with adults experiencing a wide range of mental health and emotional difficulties. His work often centres on men navigating high levels of pressure, complex relationships, emotional intensity, or behaviours that feel increasingly difficult to manage.
He supports clients with concerns such as anger, irritability, shame, low mood, anxiety, relationship breakdown, and difficulties with emotional regulation. These challenges may present alongside problematic patterns of alcohol or drug use, gambling, or other compulsive behaviours, which Richard understands not as isolated issues, but as meaningful responses to internal and external stressors.
Richard’s approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in contemporary psychological theory. He works flexibly with each individual, helping clients develop greater self-awareness, emotional stability, and a clearer sense of agency. Therapy with Richard focuses on practical change alongside deeper understanding—supporting clients to improve relationships, reduce harmful patterns, and reconnect with what matters most to them.
He is particularly experienced in working with clients who value privacy, autonomy, and a pragmatic therapeutic style, and who may feel unsure about traditional mental health or treatment models.
