Stronger starts with speaking up

Download our free Movember resource, written by Clinical Psychologist Dr Bradley Powell, and explore practical ways to support men’s mental and physical wellbeing.

Why Movember matters

Every 2 hours in the UK, a man takes his own life. Suicide remains the leading cause of death for men under 50 — yet many men still feel they have to appear “fine.” The pressure to stay strong, provide for others, and suppress emotion leaves many silently struggling.

Movember is a global movement that challenges this silence. Each November, millions of people grow moustaches, host events, and start conversations to raise awareness about men’s mental health, suicide prevention, and male cancerssuch as testicular and prostate cancer.

At Schoen Clinic Chelsea, we share that mission. As a private mental health clinic in London with a team of leading psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists, we see firsthand how cultural expectations can prevent men from seeking support — until crisis hits.

Movember is about changing that. It’s about showing that strength isn’t silence — it’s showing up.

Watch: Movember’s The Real Face of Men’s Health

This short film from Movember captures why men’s health matters to everyone — not just men themselves.

When fathers, brothers, partners, and friends are supported to stay well, the benefits ripple through families, workplaces, and entire communities.

The state of men's health in the UK

Men in the UK are statistically less likely than women to:

  • Visit their GP regularly

  • Access talking therapies

  • Discuss mental health openly

According to the Office for National Statistics (2024), men account for three out of every four suicides.

Meanwhile, research from Prostate Cancer UK shows that one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and one in four if they’re Black or have a family history.

These numbers tell a clear story: men’s health isn’t just about fitness or strength; it’s about awareness, prevention, and connection.

How therapy helps men

Many men delay seeking therapy until things feel unmanageable. But psychological support isn’t just for crisis, it’s about training your mind like your body.

At Schoen Clinic Chelsea, our clinicians offer specialised therapy for men that helps with:

  • Stress and burnout – learning to recognise overload before collapse

  • Health anxiety – managing fear of illness or medical tests

  • Depression and low mood – rebuilding motivation and meaning

  • Relationship or family pressures – improving communication and emotional understanding

  • Addiction and compulsive behaviour – addressing alcohol, drugs, or digital overuse

Our therapies include:

Whether you’re looking for individual therapy, psychiatric support, or group sessions, our expert multidisciplinary team provides a safe, confidential space to talk.

Stories of strength

Across our clinics, we’ve seen how one conversation can change a man’s life.

  • A father realising his constant fatigue isn’t weakness, but burnout.

  • An executive learning to balance ambition with self-care.

  • A young man finding the courage to get a lump checked early — and save his health.

These moments of honesty create ripple effects. Every time a man talks, checks, or reaches out, it normalises that behaviour for someone else.
