Children, Young People and Families and Eating Disorders Treatment Programme

If you are worried about a young person in your family or are a young person wo struggles with the relationships in your family because of an eating disorder. We are here to help. Our private facility has a personal approach to helping you to restore family relationships and help the young person to recovery and good health.

Our Specialist Consultant Psychiatrist leads the children, young people and families (CYPF) multi-disciplinary team at Schoen Clinic Chelsea. The team offer skilled assessment and treatment in line with NICE guidelines for children and young people experiencing a broad range of eating difficulties. Being cared for by a team means that treatment plans can be tailored to the changing needs of your family from first assessment through to when no further help is needed.

We have a Core Treatment Package which we most often recommend as a first step following assessment. With time and getting to know families better we can offer a more bespoke programme from treatments available at the clinic. These are selected based on current need and opportunity.

The Children, Young People and Families Team (CYPF)

Our experienced specialist Consultant Psychiatrist liaises with all members of the CYPF team to assess and formulate tailored treatment plans. They also lead on decisions around medication, reviews in the weekly multidisciplinary meeting and joins regular reviews with families to think about the direction of their care what the next best steps might be.

The best available evidence for treating children and young people with eating disorders is for a whole family approach. Therefore where indicated families are paired with one of the Schoen Clinic Chelsea Primary Therapists. The Primary Therapist will be your main point of contact with the clinic and work with you and your family in line with the recommended treatment programme. For example, if following our Core Family Based Treatment Package it is your Primary Therapist who will offer the weekly Family Based Sessions. In addition to the Primary Therapists, there are a number of other professionals working as part of the children, young people and families (CYPF) multidisciplinary team. All are experienced in working with CYPF and offer group and individual sessions as part of the treatment options at Schoen Clinic Chelsea.
