Schoen Clinic Newbridge Birmingham

CBT Therapist & Lead Assistant Psychologist - Eating Disorders (Children & Young People)

ABOUT

Jessica is a CBT Therapist and Lead Assistant Psychologist at Schoen Clinic Newbridge caring for our children, teens and young people undergoing treatment for eating disorders.

Jessica has over 12 years of experience working at Schoen Clinic Newbridge, 8 years of which as a CBT-E therapist. Jessica began as a healthcare assistant, which allowed her to gain first-hand experience in how to manage patients with eating disorders in an everyday setting. This included daily self-care and providing support at meal times.

After becoming an Assistant Psychologist, Jessica became heavily involved in developing the psychology group programme, including facilitating psychology groups and testing their effectiveness.

Jessica then moved on to complete a diploma in CBT at the University of Birmingham, providing Jessica with experience outside of eating disorders, including; depression, OCD and anxiety disorders. After graduation, Jessica returned as an individual CBT-E therapist specialising in Christopher Fairburn's enhanced approach to treating eating disorders as recommended by the NICE guidelines.

CBT-E is the abbreviation for “Ehanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy”, and is one of the most effective treatments for eating disorders. It is a “transdiagnostic” treatment for all forms of eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and other similar states.

Jessica has also supported various randomised control trials including the practical body image programme, self-esteem group and the junior leap programme. Jessica continues to be heavily involved with the practical body image, a rigorously tested and comprehensive programme for individuals with high levels of body dissatisfaction and associated anxiety.

Jessica most recently wrote the complete manual which provides practitioners with all the guidance and resources required to deliver the programme as well as supporting other psychologist teams across Schoen Clinic UK Group to implement these interventions.
