Schoen Clinic Newbridge Birmingham
Staff Nurse - Eating Disorders (Children & Young People)
Leigh is a Staff Nurse at Schoen Clinic Newbridge caring for our children, teens and young people undergoing treatment for eating disorders.
With a passion for helping people and a desire to work with children and adolescents, Leigh began her journey at Schoen Clinic Newbridge on a student placement in 2017.
Following her student placement, she applied for a job as a healthcare assistant in 2018 whilst finishing her nursing degree and has been with the team ever since.
Leigh began her role as a Staff Nurse at Schoen Clinic Newbridge after fully qualifying in September 2019 and has continued her professional development whilst working at the eating disorders hospital.
Leigh is trained in NGT procedures and phlebotomy and supports new staff by delivering dining room training, enabling new team members to have the confidence to support young people during their most challenging times in eating disorder recovery.
"Eating disorders can be a difficult area to specialise in, but seeing a young person regain their strength, potential and personality in the time they are with us is endlessly rewarding. However challenging a shift may be, this is nothing compared to the challenges faced by young people and their families. It is a privilege to work in this specialist branch of mental health nursing."
Explaining her interest in working at Schoen Clinic Newbridge, Leigh says "I found working with young people rewarding, challenging and interesting and I was really impressed with the quality of the service and the skills and knowledge of the staff."
